terranets bw lays the foundations of the first cross border gas market integration in Europe

Stuttgart, 26.09.2013. The signing of the Network Interconnection Contract between Vorarlberger Energienetze GmbH and terranets bw GmbH for the interconnection point Lindau-Border lays the foundations of the first cross border gas market integration in Europe, connecting the Austrian market areas Tyrol and Vorarlberg with the German market area Net Connect Germany (NCG).

"Europe is growing closer and closer together – now also in the gas market", said Dr Thomas Gößmann, Spokesman of the Management Board of terranets bw GmbH when signing the contract. "Through the close and excellent  cooperation between NCG partners, the German and Austrian regulatory authorities as well as market partners and shippers, we are the first project consortium to succeed in implementing the EU-political aim to integrate the gas markets."

Within the framework of the German-Austrian initiative COSIMA – Cross Border Operating Strongly Integrated Market Area – it was possible to achieve a direct and constraint-free supply to end-consumers in Tyrol and Vorarlberg from the virtual trading point of the German market area NCG.
The new market model for Tyrol and Vorarlberg comes into effect from 1 October 2013 and is based on a multitude of data exchange and allocation agreements between the contract partners. Shipping processing has been greatly simplified for market participants and thus stimulates competition in the gas markets of Tyrol and Vorarlberg to the advantage of the end-consumer.
