Stuttgart, 22.04.2014
By signing the contract for the purchase of the 50% shares at the natural gas underground storage Sandhausen from Essener E.ON Gas Storage GmbH (EGS) it has been agreed that, from 1st January 2015, the independent transportation system operator terranets bw GmbH becomes the only owner of the natural gas storage.
"The taking over of the remaining shares of the storage Sandhausen is an important element in our strategy to sustainably increase the security of supply with natural gas in Baden-Württemberg”, said Dr. Thomas Gößmann, Spokesman of the Management Board of terranets bw GmbH. "In this way we have got a higher flexibility for the natural gas transportation within the region.”
The pore storage (aquifer) Sandhausen, close to Heidelberg, has been operating since 1991 and has a total capacity volume of around 30 million standard cubic meters of natural gas.
With this around 150,000 households can be supplied with natural gas in Baden-Württemberg for one month.
After entry into force of the transfer of ownership as from January 2015, the underground storage is only used for the management of the transportation system operator terranets bw in order to support the non-discriminating natural gas transportation.
